RECON is the name of the family rally that Augusta Road will be sponsoring September 17-19th  2010 at Palmetto Bible Camp in Marietta, SC.  What does RECON stand for and what are we hoping to accomplish with this event?  All of our families are under attack from many things that would destroy them.  Even good families have great difficulties.  The key is not the absence of problems, but how families manage the difficulties that life brings.  With RECON we intend to help families by giving them some encouragement and tools to help them grow.

Reaching to God:  Any family that is going to be strong and grow is one in which its members are reaching to God.  If everyone in the household is reaching toward God then there is a common direction, purpose and focus.  Too many families go their own direction, instead of reaching to God.

Encouraging Others:  Families grow best when their members are encouraged and supported by the other members of that family.  Correction and discipline are necessary in the home but only in a loving manner that encourages upward and does not push down.

Challenging Ourselves:  We will never rise higher and do better if we do not push ourselves to be the best husbands, fathers, wives, mothers, sons and daughters that we can be.

Optimizing the Truth: The greatest resource for the family is the truth that God’s word provides.  Many times the worst problems in families are the lies and dark secrets that have invaded them.  Jesus said, “The truth shall set you free.”  Honesty and truthfulness and an adherence to God’s truth are essential for a strong family.

Navigating Home: The ultimate goal of any Christian family is to realize that this life is not the most important goal, but the life to come.  There is no greater joy than to think that a family can live its life here on earth together and know that all its members will be in heaven together as well.  This goal along with the others is rarely achieved, but that is all the more reason that this event and other things that we do to strengthen our families are so valuable.
